Fire deities split between the cosmological (Agni, the Vedic fire who carries offerings to the gods) and the artisanal (Hephaestus, Vulcan, Goibniu, Wayland). The forge gods are usually lame, scarred, or otherwise marked - a recurring detail that comparative mythologists read as the price of mastering an unnatural craft.
