About this book
About this Asatru mythology guide
The living revival of Norse paganism: who the heathens worship, how the blót and the sumbel work, and how the old gods came back to life in the modern world.
In 1972, on an Icelandic farm, a poet named Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson gathered a handful of people to ask the state to recognize the worship of Odin, Thor, and Frey once more. It said yes. Asatru, faith in the Aesir, had returned, and it has spread across the world ever since. It is one of the few dead religions of Europe to have genuinely come back.
This book explains both the gods and the modern practice. Eleven chapters cover the Aesir and the Vanir, the heathen understanding of fate, the Nine Noble Virtues, the rituals of the blót (sacrifice and feast) and the sumbel (the horn and the oath), the wheel of the year, the magical arts of runes and seidr, and the kindreds and organizations of today. It is rooted throughout in the Eddas and the sagas.

When will I receive my PDF?
Within 24 hours of purchase. Your download link arrives in your inbox automatically.
Is Asatru the same as Norse mythology?
Related but not identical. Norse mythology is the body of ancient stories about Odin, Thor, and the rest. Asatru is the modern religion that worships those gods. This book covers the gods, then focuses on how living heathens believe and practice today. If you want only the ancient stories, see our Norse Mythology guide.
Is this book respectful of the faith?
Yes. It is written descriptively and without mockery, and it notes clearly that the great majority of heathen organizations are inclusive and explicitly reject the racist fringe that has sometimes misused these symbols.
Is this book based on primary sources?
Yes. It draws on the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda, the Icelandic sagas, the writings of the modern revival founders, and the public materials of contemporary heathen organizations, with references to the standard translations.
How long is the book?
Eleven chapters, around 150 pages depending on the final layout. Designed to be read in evenings or in one long sitting.
Will there be a paperback on Amazon?
The PDF is available immediately. A KDP paperback edition follows once the book has been validated by readers.
What formats is this book available in?
Every title is available as an instant PDF, downloaded the moment you buy it: the link appears on the confirmation page and lands in your inbox. Selected titles also have a paperback edition on Amazon. Where the paperback is not out yet, you can sign up to be notified the day it does.
What is the return policy?
The PDF is delivered instantly by Mythologis. If a download ever fails or a file looks wrong, get in touch and we will make it right. Paperbacks bought on Amazon are handled under Amazon's own returns and refund policy.
Can I order from outside the United States?
Yes. The PDF is a digital download, so it works instantly anywhere in the world, with nothing to ship. Where a paperback edition exists, it is sold across Amazon's international marketplaces, with shipping rates and delivery times depending on your country.
